Like many horse loving artists, I have had a fascination with the Friesian horse breed. A living, breathing artform, these horses simply beg to be put on canvas or paper! This montage drawing of Friesians is one of my attempt to capture the unique beauty of these equines.

Years ago I had an opportunity to visit a Friesian breeding establishment. While taking pictures there, I managed to get a couple of shots of the magnificent stallion. I loved the image of him looking at me, through the long, wavey forelock!

One day I decided to combine the highly detailed effect of my black and white equine art along with a more coloreful/contemporary approach in colored pencil. The designs were intended to fill those tall/rectangular spaces on walls where more standard pictures do not work. I came up with a series of four drawings: Arabian, Friesian, dressage and jumper horse art.

This impressive team of Clydesdale draft horses was found at the Hall of Fame parade in Canton, OH several years ago. I snapped several photos as they went by, and ended up later creating this drawing. “Team Work” seemed to be the best title, as the two horses were indeed a great team.

These two wonderful Clydesdales were found during a visit of the Budweiser horses to Canton, Ohio in 2009. As the people crowded around, one horse nuzzled the other and almost seemed to be saying “Here we go again...”

I found this beautiful Arabian Mare prancing around her paddock. Out came my camera and the photo shoot began. In between the poses she knew I wanted, she gave me a look that was full of what could only be called “Attitude.” Thus, this Arabian Portrait was titled before it was even created!
