Of the many beautiful movements in dressage, the collected movements are probably the ones that captivate us all. And the transitions into and out of collected work are equally amazing. To see a horse & rider combo move as if floating on air is something difficult to convey in words. Here, I attempted to do so with images.

One day I decided to combine the highly detailed effect of my black and white equine art along with a more coloreful/contemporary approach in colored pencil. The designs were intended to fill those tall/rectangular spaces on walls where more standard pictures do not work. I came up with a series of four drawings: Arabian, Friesian, dressage and jumper horse art.

During my spent years riding and watching dressage, I always admired the exquisite beauty of the half pass. I would often position myself at one end of an arena, as opposed to the seating on the sides, so that I could get a great view of the bent horse and legs crossing over.

I was once fortunate enough to take several lessons on a dressage school master. This horse had more trots than my car had gears! It amazed me that what I originally thought were the slowest and fastest trots (piaffe and extended) actually had nearly the same tempo.

I was watching a dressage show one day, and was taken by some of the beautiful halts. What struck me was the amount of energy in the apparent stopped-ness. It appeared that some of the horses could have launched full-tilt forward at any moment, yet they remained motionless.
