My first adoption from Doberman Rescue years ago was a delightful female named “Beauty.” She had a very special way about her, and was a real Princess at heart. Sometimes she would sit on the sofa, cross her paws, and pose for long periods of time. Thus, the title of this piece is “Beauty Pose.”

This female Doberman and her pup were owned by friends. The people had some adorable pictures of this puppy pestering the heck out of her mom. Fortunately, Mom had a wealth of patience, thus the title of this piece.

This drawing was inspired by my male Doberman “Capone.” I adopted Capone from a Doberman Rescue, though initially he was only to be a foster child. The first night at my house he climbed onto the couch, then onto my lap, turned upside down and stared dreamily into my eyes. It wasn’t long after that he moved from foster to permanent status!

The focus of the drawing is a Doberman trying to get the cheese out of one of those treat-filled bones. All of us know that this is a great way to occupy one of these high-energy creatures for a short while!

This drawing actually depicts a Doberman riding in a truck! My dog Capone was left in the truck while I went into the stable to check on a horse. Capone, in his usual manner, stared out the front window with that woeful “When is she coming back?” look.

I couldn’t resist putting this image to paper. I’ve seen this look on all of my Dobes. I’m not sure what one would call this look, but I’m sure it is meant to instill guilt in the human owner!

A long time Doberman Pinscher fan, I decided to create a double portrait showing both a natural ear and a cropped ear Dobie. I have adopted several Dobermans over the years, and thus never have a choice in what a previous did or did not do with their ears. That’s all fine though - as each and every dog has been the best companion I could ask for!

Unless you own or have been around Dobermans, the title of this drawing, Smile, may not make much sense. To many people, a Doberman’s smile looks like a snarl! Some Dobes actuall Smile on command! (Mine smile when Grandma comes to visit or treats are forthcoming!)

My dog Capone decided one evening to climb into the rocking chair. I was quite surprised, as he is not normally one to get on anything that moves! He sat on the chair, staring at me ... and finally yawned. At that point I realized it was past bedtime for us all!
